When you think football you think Seinfeld, Madonna, Matt Lauer and Obama….right?
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – It’s Super Bowl Sunday and undoubtedly you can find something related to the Big Game just about anywhere you look today. It will warrant mention in churches across the USA. The television industry is in a frenzy for the big game and to pull you in. Over 111 million people watched last when….when….you know those two teams played and that one became the champs.
Super markets will be packed this morning with greedy grub grabbing suburbanites getting everything that one simply must have for a proper Super Bowl party. The big time pre-game show kicks off at 10 am on NBC today, and everyone who works for NBC will get into the act, even the early morning TODAY Show, because when you think football you think the TODAY Show.
The 2012 season looks promising but offers no guarantees
HOUSTON - Now that the 2011 NFL season is coming to a close and all of the ire and frustrations of the Texans’ first-ever playoff appearance have simmered, I thought now might be about the right time to reflect back on what was the culmination of the most interesting season of football that this team has ever experienced.Hopes of Super Bowl glory end in Baltimore
HOUSTON – Texans fans know the feeling well. It’s that time of year when we swallow hard and say, “Wait till next year.” We’ve done that for ten seasons now. It feels a little different this year however. In some ways it’s tougher and in other ways much better.
The difference is that this year the Texans were among the last eight teams standing in the NFL. The Texans made it to the playoffs. The Texans brought their first ever playoff game home to Reliant Stadium, a gift to the faithful home town fans.
Match up with perennial defensive juggernaut intriguing
HOUSTON - The city of Baltimore is riding pretty high right now. With Peyton Manning out of the equation and the Steelers done for the season, there are many who believe that the road for the Ravens to reach the Super Bowl and rack up their second Lombardy trophy has already been paved.
Of the four remaining teams in the AFC, the Ravens in my earnest opinion are the most balanced team. Although the Patriots boast perhaps the most explosive offense in the league, their defense is very questionable and ranks near the bottom of the NFL rankings. And, does anyone really believe that a fullback playing quarterback can possibly lead his team to the Super Bowl? I have to admit, I find myself pulling for Tebow, but the Broncos have no chance of getting past the Patriots in Foxboro.
Houston takes on Baltimore next week
HOUSTON – The Houston Texans won their first playoff game in franchise history with an overwhelming 31 -10 victory against the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday. The record home crowd of 71,725 was incredibly noisy, helping the Texans to regain their potent offense and return to winning form.
Next weekend the Texans travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. That game will be played on Sunday at noon Central.
Texans Head coach and GM made all the right moves in 2012
HOUSTON - Life in the NFL often mirrors that of a daytime soap opera. The drama is relentless. Passions run high. And new characters are always coming and going. Luckily for Texans’ GM Rick Smith and Head Coach Gary Kubiak, the producers of the struggling big show on Kirby (Texans’ owner Bob McNair & Co.), were willing to keep things status quo for one more season, despite the angst of the viewing audience who felt that they had seen enough.
Let’s face it, in almost every other circumstance, at least Kubiak --and deservedly so--would have lost his job after the 6-10 debacle last season. There was basically no justification of keeping a head coach around who had amassed one of the worst five-year records in recent NFL history. But the embattled coach had three things working in his favor:Houston Texans playoff tickets for Wild Card Weekend went on sale to the public Friday, Dec. 30, at 10 a.m. CT exclusively through Ticketmaster.com. Within 15 minutes, the approximately 2,000 tickets were sold out.

Playoffs feature several rematches; Texans v Baltimore, Broncos v
Patriots and Giants v Packers
The NFL Divisional Playoffs begin with the NFC on Saturday, January 14 at 2:30 Central when the New Orleans Saints take on the San Francisco 49ers in Candlestick Park. The number 3 seed Saints come into San Francisco with a 13-3 record on the season. The 49ers are the number 2 seed in the NFC with a 13-3 record. The game will be aired on Fox.
Drew Brees and prolific offense of the Saints have won 9 straight with Brees racking up 600 yards in each of the Saints last two games. In their Wildcard Weekend matchup against the Lions, the Saints picked up a playoff-record 626 yards in a 45-28 win. Brees threw for 466 yards and completed 33 of 43 passes in that game. The question will be can the San Francisco defense do anything to slow down or stop the Brees juggernaut.GREEN BAY, WI – Police have pulled the body of 21-year old Michael Philbin from the Fox River in Wisconsin. Philbin is the son of Joe Philbin the offensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers.
The cause of death is yet to be determined. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday according to Police Chief Scott Greuel of Oshkosh who spoke at a news conference.
Bengals will face a rowdy home crowd in Reliant today
HOUSTON - Wildcard Weekend will get underway at 3:30 pm when the Cincinnati Bengals face the AFC South Champion Houston Texans at home in Reliant Stadium. The game will be broadcast on NBC television.
The Texans defeated the Bengals in week 14 of the regular season on the road in Cincinnati by a score of 20 – 19. The game was won when rookie QB T.J. Yates led the Texans to a last minute touchdown.
