MAGNOLIA WEST SOCCER PLAYER COLLAPSES

At approximately 3:45 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, a Magnolia West High School boys soccer player collapsed on the practice field. The athletic trainer performed CPR on the player and also used the AED located in the nearby field house. The player was transported to the hospital via EMT.  Please keep this young man in your prayers.  We will update you as details become available.

UPDATE as of 9:51am today from Charlie Brown, Communications Specialist at MISD:

"I can tell you that if it wasn't for the staff, in particular the athletic trainer, the boy would have died. The rest of the coaching staff and faculty who were also there did a phenomenal job of managing the situation. They have a contingency plan in place for sundry events like this, and they executed their plan to perfection. Also, once the EMS was called, they were there within 4 minutes of the boy's collapse...about the same time it took for Channel 2's helicopter to arrive!

"My latest update on the boy is that he has stabilized, but he is still in critical condition and in CCU. We are hoping to get more definitive information about his condition as the day progresses.

"Also, Pasadena ISD had one of their athletes collapse yesterday as well. He is in good condition at Memorial Hermann. I spoke with their Director of Communications this morning, and we commiserated on our plights. She said that media can contact the hospital directly for information regarding that boy's condition."
