SUPER BOWL WIN A BREES FOR THE SAINTS
Drew Brees threw his way into Super Bowl history last night

Saints down Colts 31 - 17

Who Dat!

Drew Brees tore up the record books for completions in a Super Bowl going 32 for 39 while racking up 288 yards, two touchdowns, an MVP award and the Lombardi Trophy for his long-suffering Saints.  In Super Bowl 44, the 43 year drought for Saints fans came to an end in grand Mardi Gras style.

It was a dramatic Super Bowl.  The underdog Saints playing with heart and conviction against a mighty Indianapolis Colts team led by, perhaps the greatest QB ever to play the game, New Orleans native, Peyton Manning, whose father Archie Manning has been one of the biggest heroes in Saints history.

Who Dat!

The Colts jumped out to an early 10-point lead.  The Saints attempted a comeback with a goal line drive late in the second quarter only to be stopped on third and fourth down by the Colts.

The First half ended with the score at 10 – 6 in favor of the Colts.

Saints Head Coach Sean Payton surprised the billion people watching at home, and the Colts, by starting the second half with an onside kick which the Saints recovered.  That play seemed to change the momentum of the entire game.  New Orleans took the ball down the field for their first touchdown and their first lead of the game.

The Colts would retake the lead before Drew Brees would toss one to Jeremy Shockey for a 2-yard touchdown taking the lead and keeping it.

Manning and the Colts became accustomed to fourth quarter come backs throughout the regular season engineering 7 come from behind fourth quarter victories, but an interception late in the game by the Saint’s Tracy Porter who returned the pick for a 74 yard touchdown sealed the deal and lit up Bourbon Street.

It was an emotional win for a team that has been a perpetual underdog in a city that has known incredible tragedy since Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005.

"New Orleans is back and this shows the whole world we're back," Saints owner Tom Benson said as he hoisted the Lombardi Award.
