ELEMENTARY STUDENTS PAINT COLORFUL, ORIGINAL ART TILES TO BRIGHTEN NEW TEXAS CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL WEST CAMPUS

Art tiles will be a fanciful accent to patient rooms

Third graders from West Houston are in the midst of painting colorful art tiles in hopes of creating smiles and encouraging speedy recoveries for future patients at Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus. As part of their art classes, students are designing and painting six-inch square ceramic tiles, each with their original water-themed scene. The goal of the project is to create colorful tiles that will be installed in patient shower areas at the new community hospital, currently under construction at I-10 and Barker Cypress.

By featuring art by children and for children, Texas Children’s Hospital creates unique healthcare settings that are also psychologically healing and supportive for patients in their recovery. Whether on display or integrated into the environment, the artwork at West Campus is being thoughtfully planned to surround families with a soothing, healing energy that has been proven to reduce anxiety, lower blood pressure, improve ability to cope with pain and even decrease length of stay. Because West Campus will serve families throughout the greater West Houston community, Texas Children’s wants to ensure that artwork from area children is well represented in the facility.
