The Rotary Club of Cypress-Fairbanks recently sold briskets to raise over $2,000 for malnourished children and pregnant women in Africa.
The money, donated to UNICEF, will be used to purchase at least two metric tons of a high-protein porridge-like mix scientifically designed to supplement the inadequate diets of children under five and pregnant women.
The brisket sale was the brainchild of Thomas Benson, of Advantax, who is the current president of Cy-Fair Rotary, and D. Ray Young, president of Water Engineers.
In remarking on the success of the event, club president Tom Benson said, “The delicious briskets, cooked by Carl's Barbeque, located at 290 and Telge Road, were such a big hit with the public this past Mother's Day weekend, that the sale will become an annual event. We want to thank fellow Rotarian, Mike Reiland, the owner of Carl’s Barbeque for helping facilitate this event.”
