HOUSTON - Was he just a "Perry-winkle"? The Rick Perry supporter who threatened to bring "a large bucket of rotten cabbages and tomatoes" failed to appear as Jeff Daiell, a candidate for the 2010 Libertarian nomination for Governor of Texas, addressed two Government classes last night at Wharton County Junior College's Sugar Land campus.
Daiell was not speaking in his capacity as a candidate, but as a representative of the Libertarian Party. The campaign's Editorial Consultant, Bobbi Schwartz, declared, "The resort to a threat shows that there is no sound basis for supporting Mr. Perry, any more than there is for supporting Mr. White. When you cannot win with facts and figures, you fall back on threats."
The candidate added, "I'm glad there were no cabbages hurled my way. What Texas needs is not for heads to fly in Sugar Land, but for heads to roll in Austin."
Daiell holds the record for the most votes, and the highest percentage by a Libertarian nominee for Governor of Texas. Daiell's platform combines support for free enterprise with respect for civil liberties. Several planks are already posted at the campaign's website,
www.JeffDaiell.com. The campaign also has three separate Facebook pages (Daiell for Governor),and is on Twitter (WeAreTexans).
