OBAMA AVOIDS PROTESTS AT A&M.

President Obama was greeted by swarms of protesters upon his arrival at Texas A&M University on Friday, October 16.  He certainly got an eyeful and earful of how America feels.  Or at least he would have had he cared enough to venture to where the protesters were hidden out of sight by A&M officials.

Remember the good old days when Americans, even the founders of Texas A&M University held dear those antiquated old-school beliefs of freedom, free speech, the rights of the people, and the stuff scribbled down in the U.S. Constitution?  Well, fear not today's leaders of A&M aren't into all that Constitutional Rights of Free Speech and peaceful assembly junk.  No, they felt that Friday's demonstrations of freedom were best conducted out of eyesight and ear shot of the President of the United States.

After all, we really shouldn’t bother the president with our opinions on how our country should be run, now should we?

Shame on you, A&M administration! You really should look into changing Maroon to Yellow, it’s a color better suited for you.

However, the freedom loving students of A&M were proudly displaying not only Maroon, but Red, White and Blue as they showed up en masse to protest the socialization of America, Obamacare, the current administration’s position on Life, and other issues of pressing concern for the people of the United States of America.

The Cypress Times’ own Lindsey Clayton was on the scene at A&M and filed the photos contained in the slide show attached to this article.

Good Article
John, thank you for you informative article. Understanding such things helps when listening to TV news that often only gives a basic discription. Sometime though we only get one point of view.
Thank you for allowing different views in The Cypress Times. Great newspaper.

confused by some comments
I'm not even sure if any of you know what the original article John Winder wrote is about.

Perhaps some of you should read it again and make points about the actual article and get back on track.

Get the facts!
I apologize wholeheartedly for my typo in typing N instead of the caps key in Obama and my typo of the word protest... I guess I was a bit too "upset" and typed protess instead. :) In any case, Obama IS our President and I respect that no matter what I feel otherwise. I just wanted you to know that Aggies are ONE family and we DO believe in traditions..of our University AND our COUNTRY. God Bless America and Gig 'Em Ags! Class '74 and a proud mom of an Aggie Band Grad! Only about 14 Aggies in my family, mom and dad both faculty/staff for 33 years!

I said nothing whatsoever against Aggies.
Or, in fact, against any member of the military.

I have no idea what "Aggie traditions" are, but I'm sure they are supportive of free speech, as I am myself.

All I'm suggesting is that it is false for John to present this as an innovative error on Obama's part.

Get the facts!
Nobama and his staff ORDERED any protess to be held AWAY from him and his agreed upon path to Reed Arena was to totally AVOID that area. Yellow.. I think NOT! We are Aggies and you don't know a flipping thing about our traditions. Get your facts before you attack US! Just remember how many of our Corps members go on to serve our country and keep obviously ungrateful people FREE! Gig 'EM AGS! '74

"I don't remember reading about Bush in John's article."

Exactly.

For Zander
Where's the rolling eye icon when you need one?

I don't remember reading about Bush in John's article.

Why can't you stick to the story instead of getting way of on your own horse?

Bush in the memory hole
No-one can attribute support for Bush to the Cypress Times as an organization, because as you say it's been around for barely a year. But you, John, have been around for considerably longer. How did you vote when Bush was running for Governor, or for President?

It's perfectly all right for Tim to let readers know that this is a (bad) thing that Bush did too. Doesn't make it OK, but it might prevent people from thinking that this is some sort of innovative error on Obama's part.

This is not Year Zero. I understand that conservatives want to distance themselves from Bush's legacy, but it's ridiculous to pretend that conservatives were never Bush's enthusiastic supporters. Without Texan conservatives in particular, we'd never have had a Bush Jr. administration in the first place. Till the immigration debates of 2005, he was genuinely the conservatives' darling, and conservatives generally viewed disagreement with him - about the war or about civil liberties - as potentially treasonous sympathy with terrorists.

Your Feelings Expressed Well
I think this is one of your best, Winder. A clear and well written article. Even I can see much of your points...and well taken.

Have you received an article from "Tim" that gives his full point of view? That would be something to read too.

How about it Tim?

My apologies to Alex
You weren't pointing out the author of the article's spelling. So sorry. I scrolled up to fast.
