The Cypress Times endorses Roy Morales for Mayor of Houston.
The election is basically upon us and it’s time for Houstonians to decide who will lead the fourth largest city in the United States of America. Insofar as we are concerned there is only one choice; the conservative choice, Roy Morales.
Now that we’ve had a first hand look at what runaway liberalism or even the attempt of forcing runaway liberal programs upon the American people looks like, we are more convinced than ever that in order for Houston to prosper and grow we need a strong leader. We need a moral leader, a conservative leader who shares the actual values of the hard-working, church-going, tax-paying people of Houston. The only choice is Roy Morales.
There is a crowded field this year in the Mayoral race. Peter Brown is the most well funded and the one who is positioning himself as the outsider, a businessman not a politician, despite his time spent on Houston City Council. Peter Brown is also a Democrat.
Annise Parker is the controller for the City of Houston and well-versed in the affairs of the City. Annise Parker is also a Democrat.
Gene Locke is a lifelong politician, or political operative of some sort, most known by many as the Chief-of-Staff for the late Houston Congressman Mickey Leland (Sheila Jackson Lee’s predecessor). Gene Locke is also a Democrat.
If you watched the debates or look at the candidate’s websites, you will never see the dreaded “D” word spoken nor spelled out. You know why, and so do these wily candidates. The “D” word conjures up images of Pelosi, Reid and billions of dollars flying out of your collective pockets and into the hands of millionaire bankers and insurance executives.
Some will tell you that no one mentions the “D” word because the Houston Mayoral Race is a non-partisan race. Really? You sure you want to go with that one?
According to the letter of the law, the race is non-partisan. However, if a candidate belongs to a party and is in politics, then “non-partisan” is sort of like the Easter Bunny and The Tooth Fairy. It’s all fun to play along with until around the age of 9 or 10.
We have seen little to no “bi-partisanship” exhibited in this country for our greater good at any level of politics. So why would anyone be so foolish as to think that “non-partisanship” would actually be practiced by any candidate once they are in office?
It won’t happen.
You must consider the party to which they have chosen to belong. You must consider the ideology with which these candidates have chosen to align themselves. This fact alone will tell you far more about what Brown, Parker and Locke believe than will the questionable words spewing forth from their mouths during an election year.
Only one candidate, to my knowledge, has proudly named his party affiliation: Roy Morales.
Roy is proud to call himself “Republican”.
Roy is proud to call himself “Conservative.”
The strange thing is that all those “D” people are calling themselves “conservatives”, too. Talk about confused. You’re a conservative, but you joined the Democrat party? I don’t think that exhibits the kind of rock solid reasoning and decision making I want in a Mayor, or a dog catcher for that matter.
So then you have to ask yourself these questions:
Are they (Brown, Parker, Locke) truly conservative?
Do they genuinely feel the Democrat party best represents conservative values, belief, and thought in this country?
Those two notions don’t jibe.
Either they aren’t really conservatives or they aren’t really Democrats. They are democrats. That we know, even though they won't admit it.
So, are they conservatives? If they are not conservatives, but claim to be, then they must either be very confused, or intentionally trying to deceive you.
“YOU LIE” echoes through my mind.
All three of the “D”’s in this race have been endorsed by the AFL/CIO; not a bastion of conservative policy support there.
Roy Morales asserts that all three pandered for, or lobbied for, the endorsement of ACORN.
It was asserted by Annise Parker in a recent Mayor’s forum that Gene Locke got ACORN’s endorsement, but has chosen to keep it quiet because…you know…it’s ACORN. Plus touting that endorsement would really serve to shine a spotlight on the whole “D” word thing.
Here’s the deal on Roy Morales. He is endorsed by the Harris County Republican Party, and by over 100 Republican Precinct Chairs. He is endorsed by the Harris County Towing Association, and he is the only candidate in this race who has had the courage to stand up and say that as Mayor he will have the Houston Police Department enforce illegal immigration issues under the 287 G Program. That's Bold Folks!
The other three candidates in this race aren't even bold enough to dare use a single word to describe themselves, even though they are card carrying members of this particular political party, and, we must therefore assume, ascribe to its core beliefs.
They won’t use the word for good reason. They fear the word and they know how you would react to the word.
The word is Democrat. Try it out.
Peter Brown – Democrat
Anise Parker – Democrat
Gene Locke – Democrat.
There is another word they won’t ever use to describe themselves either: Liberal.
"I am the only Republican, only conservative, in the Mayor's race. I am running against three liberals," Roy Morales told me yesterday.
What's worse than the "D" word? The "L" word!
Here are some words to describe Roy Morales
Public Servant
Patriot
Veteran
Republican
Conservative
Christian
Let’s add one more soon: Mayor.
