KAY BAILEY HUTCHISON AND ABORTION REVISITED, THE FLIP FLOP OF HER “LIFE”

By Debra Medina

Conservative and pro-choice rarely fall in the same sentence, unless you’re referring to “conservative” gubernatorial candidate Kay Bailey Hutchison, of course. A long time Washington insider and clear adversary on pro-life issues, Senator Hutchison has had ample opportunity to rally against abortion, and she has failed. She has had ample opportunity to support and uphold the U.S. Constitution and has failed. There is no evidence that she’ll uphold the Texas Constitution or defend the people of the great state of Texas.

While most Texans realize that the Supreme Court should have remanded Roe v Wade to the states, Kay Bailey Hutchison supported the decision which federalized abortion by legislating from the bench.[i] While she makes arguments now when she wants to come home to Texas that she has changed her mind, her ultimate stance is clear. Senator Hutchison is not a defender in the pro-life fight.

In 2003, the U.S. Senate took a vote with their “Statement of Purpose” being “to express the sense of the Senate concerning the decision of the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade.” Kay Bailey Hutchison was one of only eight Republican senators to vote in favor of upholding Roe vs. Wade. The YEA’s receiving 52 votes in favor and the NAY’s receiving 46 votes against the controversial court decision. Even five Democrat senators voted NAY.[ii] As Republicans and true conservatives, we cannot continue to allow liberal views to tear at the fabric of our conservative values.

Many people may not remember as far back as 1996 when during the Texas Republican convention Hutchison was part of a pro-choice delegation that was targeted by the pro-life voting block.[iii] But voting delegates at that convention remember full well. “We didn’t want her to go to national because she didn’t represent the party in Texas and she still doesn’t represent Texas. She needs to stay in DC where they advertise abortion on the side of a bus” stated Susan Ashbrook, a delegate that was at the 1996 convention. “She wasn’t pro-life until it suited her purpose to come back to Texas to run for governor. It’s all very convenient for her political career.”

Blatant disrespect for life isn’t the only telling problem with Kay. She took an oath of office. She has violated that oath to the U. S. Constitution time and again.

Article 1, Section 8 of the U. S. Constitution[iv] gives the federal government no jurisdiction over personal medical procedures such as abortion. It was an unconstitutional ruling and Congress has an obligation to overturn those rulings. Kay Bailey clearly has no understanding of the Constitution. Either she hasn’t read it or she ignores it. Either way she violates that oath of office.

Senator Hutchison also sat on the advisory board of the The WISH List. The WISH (Women in the Senate and House) List is a Political Action Committee that endorses and contributes to pro-abortion female Republican campaigns across the nation. Senator Hutchison received $34,500 in contributions from the WISH List for her first senate campaign.[v] Before her 2006 Senate race, The WISH list removed Hutchison’s name from their advisory board and endorsement list, although a reason was not provided.

I am, and always will be, a respecter of human life, unborn to elderly, a life is precious. My position on life is clear; we must speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. I have proposed six ballot initiatives, one addressing the protection of life. If adopted this initiative would require all Republican candidates in Texas to sign a pledge stating “I solemnly swear or affirm on my honor to support or do no harm to Pro-Life Legislation and oppose intrusions of the Federal Government upon the authority of the citizens of Texas to determine the legal limits of the State with regards to Life."

The lack of accountability and the evident opportunism being offered by many elected officials is appalling. It’s time We Texans require more from our candidates at every level. Saying you are pro-life during election season and voting to uphold Roe vs. Wade once in office is a blatant contradiction, just as is “Kay Bailey Hutchison” and “Governor of Texas”.

You Got the Wrong Girl
This Debra Medina, candidate for governor, has been pregnant twice in her life, and was blessed to have two healthy children - Janise and Jacob now 24 and 20 respectively. No abortions here. Pro-life in my life and in my philosophy. (And shame on you for violating the confidentiality of someone's medical records)

Debra Had an Abortion.
Look up the files at an abortion clinic in Austin. A woman from Wharton named Debra Medina? Coincidence? No. Debra you are a LIAR. you are not pro-life. You support the death penalty. Anyone who is really pro-life is against abortion and the death penalty.
