ABC AT IT AGAIN - REFUSES TO AIR AD ON HEALTH CARE FROM LEAGUE OF AMERICAN VOTERS
"All Barack Channel"

The ABC television network is at it again.  This time they're refusing to air an AD from the League of American Voters regarding health care.  The AD, which as put together by former Clinton advisor, Dick Morris has been running on local stations around the country, but when media buyers attempted to place the AD on ABC, the network refused the buy and the much needed revenue.

The AD features a Neurosurgeon, Dr. Mark J. Cuffe, who runs down a litany of reasons why the current bills sitting in the House and Senate are not good for health care in the United States.  All of the Doctor's remarks are footnoted and referenced for fact checking. Perhaps the problem ABC has with this AD is that it contains more factual reporting on the health care debate than anything ABC News has been able to come up with thus far.

ABC, seems to continue to strive to be known as the "All Barack Channel" having led the way in terms of ditching all journalistic integrity last June 24 when it turned over a portion of its prime time line up to an Obama Healthcare Infomercial.  During the airing of that infomercial, draped under the facade of news, ABC refused to air any and all ADs in oppostion to the Healthcare bill.

It seems as nothing has changed.

There is nothing in ABC's stated AD policy regarding the refusal to air this type of AD, their policy, as posted on ABC.com states:

"All commercials and promotional announcements for ABC's programming are reviewed by our Department of Broadcast Standards and Practices to ensure compliance with company guidelines. We also impose scheduling restrictions on some commercials to make certain that they air only within programs appropriate to their target audience."

If you believe that ABC has erred in refusing to run this AD, let them know about it.  Contact ABC at the following address/phone number/email:

The Constitution-You know what that is I hope.doesnot give government the right to be in health care nor does it give the government the right to bail out car manufacturers nor does it give the government the right to have the Federal Reseve. STOP doing what you want and DO what the PEOPLE want

Fair Use?
Sorry to disagree James, but no whining here about the demise of the fairness doctrine. There was nothing fair about the fairness doctrine. Read it sometime. I also don't believe a television network should have to be forced to be fair, particularly when it comes to accepting cash from one side of an issue, but not the other. ABC has run the AARP pro-healthcare ad relentlessly. If we are truly at a point where the government has to force fairness - we're all in a great deal of trouble.

Fair Use?
So you are saying that ABC should be airing the commercial in the interest of fairness? As in the Fairness Doctrine that the Reagan Administration repealed in the 80's? I think that's called Karma, because if there had been a Fairness Doctrine, then the League of American voters could have their views shown on ABC. Want to blame someone? Blame the Republicans. They did this to themselves.

In the interests of full disclosure: I work in the Healthcare Industry. I know that we need reform, but I am not liking what I am hearing from DC. Still, for people who probably supported the end of the Fairness Doctrine 22 years ago now to whine that their message is not being heard is nothing more than whining. You helped to set the rules of this way and benefited from them for years with blowhards like Limbaugh on stations that weren't required to have an opposing view of any kind. Now that the same rules you loved work against you, it's a problem. Stop whining and find a more constructive way to get your perspective out there.

As a "Brit"?
As a an American I find the opinion of an interloping Brit to be as useless a thing as imaginable. Talk to me when you become a citizen, otherwise shut up.

Since you're not an American you obviously can not fathom the concept of "Free Speech". In this country the people are meant to be the filter not a state run media that determines for us (lest we strain to think for ourselves) what we do and don't get to see or think or believe. Go home you foreigner. We have enough home grown idiots without importing you and your bad "government mandated" teeth.

I support ABC's ban
As a Brit living in the US I find the ad irresponsible and I support ABC's ban.

Thanks for giving me the ABC address so I can contact them and show them my support.

I have also complained to Dr Cuffe.
