Bless this night, oh Lord, we pray,
Bless our families we love so dear,
Bless our friends far and near—
Lord, give peace in every way.
As Mary waited for the birth
We wait in joyful expectation,
For dawn to bring a declaration—
Lord, give new life to all the earth.
Lay your head where cattle feed,
There’s humility within this stable;
Though you are poor, you are able…
Lord, give help to all in need.
Like shepherds we come to seek
A babe’ who is Christ the King,
With triumph angels sing—
Lord, give welcome to the meek.
For everything they have to gain,
Transform those lost in despair—
We ask of you in evening prayer,
Lord, give dignity to all in pain.
Change us Jesus, and make us pure,
To guide this misplaced generation…
Help us lead them into salvation,
Lord, give us strength to endure.
Bless us this night as we receive,
Gifts from the Father never ceasing
And celebrate your loves releasing—
Lord, give us grace this Christmas Eve.
