TRUE REPENTANCE
ABOUT THE AUTHOR

At dawn on May 6th, 2010, by the call of Theresa Furman’s shofar, a group of Believers gathered outside the First Church of God in Celina, Ohio to begin a day-long caravan to unite with brothers and sisters in Christ across seven counties and seven cities in answer to our Lord’s trumpet call to repentance. After more than a year on the road with my wife and four children, with no means to provide for our needs but God’s Grace, I have come to understand that our journey is an example of true repentance.

In order to cure an individual who has been poisoned, you must first analyze the symptoms to determine the nature of the toxin. Only after a careful and meticulous examination are you able to diagnose the poison and call it by name. By its name, you may know the antidote. Knowing the antidote is just as important as knowing the poison, otherwise you have engaged in an exercise in futility and the patient dies.

What lies at the root of everything wrong in our nation today is the enemy. Long ago, when the wise men that founded our nation were gone and memory of the Providence under which they served had diminished, the enemy handed us a cup of wine mingled with poison. Many nations of old had also drunk of this poison and were destroyed by it, including biblical Israel, the first nation under God. Nonetheless, we drank deeply our cup of iniquity, so pleasing to our palate, and the voices of warning from the past were deaf in our ears. When symptoms from the poison began to manifest, we searched the world over for salves and remedies. Many we found, but none were the cure. As our condition worsened, we became desperate, cleaving to practices and rituals that would have been unthinkable to our fathers. Unwittingly, in our pursuit of healing, we have only hastened our demise. Such is the nature of the enemy’s poison.

Lest our nation perish from the earth, along with our forefathers’ dream of self-government by a free people, we must awaken, like in the days of old, we must remember the rock from which we were cut, and we must remember the One whom we serve (Isaiah 51).

The only antidote for the poison of the enemy is Christ, our Lord and Savior. So long as we reject this remedy and deny His healing power, we will be ravaged by the poison that flows throughout our nation and soon we will succumb to it. But if we hearken to the voice of our Lord and do what He asks, He will hear our cry and our plea, He will forgive our sin and He will heal our land. In2 Chronicles 7:14 God tells us that what He requires is true repentance, which means thus:

If my people, who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways…

[If we Believers, calling ourselves Christians, will turn from our pride; property, wealth and a reliance upon our own strength and wit, and lift up our voices to God, seeking His will for our lives and His righteousness, thus turning from our sinful and depraved behavior…]

Then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

[Then God will hearken to our words, having witnessed our hearts and the Truth in our actions to turn from our wickedness, and He will restore us in every way.]

If you don’t believe in this, then what do you believe in? Is God some sort of referee, merely trying to balance the playing field between one team versus another? Such is the faith of the faithless, lost in the false doctrine of the enemy.

If you are a Believer, then you know that your first responsibility in Life is to your Savior, and that any work worth doing is an investment in Him.

Therefore, whether led by a few Believers or many (Luke 13:18-21), we who are in Christ have a solemn duty and obligation to humbly bow down in prayer and seek God’s will. But when His will is revealed, we have an even greater obligation to stand upright, in faith and belief, brandishing the Sword of Truth, and charge forward to break down the enemy’s walls. Because of our long sleep, We The Church have a great many walls and fortresses to breach. Bastions of iniquity surround us, but one stands taller than all the rest. Lest we allow ourselves to be divided and conquered by the enemy, we must focus our united strength on that most offensive tower in our midst.

Ezekiel 16:20-21

20“‘And you took your sons and daughters whom you bore to me and sacrificed them as food to the idols. Was your prostitution not enough?21You slaughtered my children and sacrificed them to the idols.’”

Is not our greatest offense against our Lord, the innocent blood we shed to feed our greatest idol, which is our personal freedom? What a great irony that the rights we so hail are the very freedoms the Lord shall sweep away like dust in the wind. Will the Lord sustain any of our Bill of Rights, when the great and terrible day of His judgment befalls our nation? Or will He erase them all, that we may learn to appreciate that our Freedom is only by virtue of our Righteousness?

Thus, my family continues our Road To Repentance, sounding the watchman’s alarm, warning our countrymen of the coming storm, praying we turn from our wickedness, and charging forward to breach the enemy’s walls.

When will you arise from your knees and join the army of the Lord?
