We accepted a lie, and into the valley of the shadow we followed the kings of the earth. There, we feared the darkness.
The lie we accepted is that We The People rooted in Christ, The Church, should be separated from the affairs of state. Discover the source of this lie and you will discover the source of that seed which the enemy planted, a seed which gave birth to a corrupt tree, bearing corrupt fruit.
The First Amendment of our Constitution states not the words “separation of church and state,” but rather the following:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…
How did this become construed to mean “separation of church and state”? By a letter from Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptist Association of Danbury, Connecticut, in which he states:
I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State.
Thomas Jefferson – Jan. 1 1802
This response to the Danbury Baptist Association’s concern that a national religion might be established, has become the cornerstone of legal arguments by secularists and atheists who desire not religious freedom, but the expulsion of Christ from our society.
I have often asked myself, why have so many organizations, political or otherwise, failed to reverse this trend in the United States towards Godlessness. I now understand that the failure of previous efforts is related to this Lie. Until you reform our government, at all levels and in all branches, with a renewed Christian perspective, what hope is there to stem the destruction of life, the propagation of sexual immorality and the repression of our freedom to worship Christ The Lord wherever, whenever and however We The People may choose?
Thomas Jefferson was an admirer of English philosopher John Locke, who is among the first to conceptualize the benefits of removing state authority over religion, or the church as it were. Neither, however, suggested that man resort to “the church of his own mind,” as Thomas Paine asserted in his Age of Reason. Here is more of what Paine had to say in this work concerning religion:
I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Turkish church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my own church.
All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit.
While I might be inclined to agree that institutions of churches have a history of usurping the rights of man, whose abuses of power our Creator may consider repugnant, it is important that we accept the basis from which all Truth is derived. The church is not religion. Rather the church is Christ The Lord and those among We The People who take root in Him. Religion is an emanation of man’s reasoning of God’s Law, the Way of His Son, and by individual belief and practice of faith. All of which are to be preserved and encouraged in our society, not discouraged and chastised by the very government We The People sustain.
Paine further explains his bias in his Age of Reason, as follows:
Of all the systems of religion that ever were invented, there is none more derogatory to the Almighty, more unedifying to man, more repugnant to reason, and more contradictory in itself, than this thing called Christianity. Too absurd for belief, too impossible to convince, and too inconsistent for practice, it renders the heart torpid, or produces only atheists and fanatics. As an engine of power it serves the purpose of despotism; and as a means of wealth, the avarice of priests; but so far as respects the good of man in general, it leads to nothing here or hereafter.
I hope this gives you great pause, for upon the basis of Paine’s Common Sense, many now claim he is the Father of the American Revolution, as opposed to Samuel Adams, who directly challenged Paine on his assault on Christianity. Paine is also regarded as the inspiration behind the present revival of the liberty movement, or Tea Party.
Perhaps the great challenge We The People face today for the fate of our nation may be expressed by the Apostle Paul in his letter to the Church of the Corinthians:
I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought. My brothers, some from Chloe's household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: One of you says, "I follow Paul"; another, "I follow Apollos"; another, "I follow Cephas"; still another, "I follow Christ."
Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized into the name of Paul?
I Corinthians 1:10-13
If you want to understand better the absurdity of the wisdom of Paine and those who have taken up his banner after him, against the Christian Church, read all of Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians. Truly, the Lord proves the wisdom of the wise, foolish!
The Truth is that from the very beginning of time, the enemy has sought to divide man from God. He wastes no time in planting the seeds of division at every opportunity. The Christian faith had hardly begun when divisions sprouted. Similarly, our nation had hardly stretched out it wings before this division was inspired by one who inspired and fought for our liberty. This is a hard Truth to accept, but it is instructive and empowering to understand.
Was America founded by Deists or Christians, or a combination thereof? The answer is none of the above, for we were set into being by our Lord and Savior, as evidenced by the beacon of Christianity our nation became, and has long shined since from upon that hill.
We The People have no sway over our future, save the righteous or evil choices we make along the way. Is it righteous, therefore, for a society to reflect upon its founding and thus pave the way of its future in the same likeness? If given another chance, would Sodom and Gomorrah choose the same path, knowing their root was corrupt and knowing their fate?
In Truth, no man may question the Creator, His Prophets, and certainly not His Son, Christ our Lord. What foundation is left, if you discount and disparage their examples as revealed in the Bible? Did Paine seek to create a nation in his own image? Had not others endeavored to do so before, only to see their towers crumble along with their vanity?
We do indeed live in a country whose national religion is as Paine described, My own mind is my own church, which we today may call the church of To Each His Own.
Shall man do what is right in his own sight, or that which is right in the sight of our Lord and Savior? And if even Paine would acknowledge that it was necessary to follow the moral law or our Creator, and not morals of our own device, from which standard would one derive such morals, if not the Bible?
Though almost universally opposed in Paine’s day, the enemy’s seed has sprouted abundantly. We The People have allowed this to happen by accepting a Lie, that matters of state should be held exclusive, not from the institutions of religion, but from God Himself. And although no law of man can circumcise the heart, so as to compel We The People to cleave to our Lord, it is pure foolishness to believe that a nation set apart from God can long survive.
There is no greater Truth that there is no Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness without our Lord and Savior, not on earth, nor in heaven above. Thus, only by measure of our faith may we restore our great nation to its founding principles—principles rooted in Truth.
God Bless And Always Speak The Truth!
