A large portion of the American public pays taxes everyday on goods and services. That makes sense to most people because the average American understands that taxes must be levied to fund the government’s affairs. However, when does the levying of taxes start to resemble a yearly “shakedown” by the government? The hard TRUTH is many Americans are starting to feel overly taxed, and they are simply fed up.
How is it that someone can pay- off something, such as a house, and still be made to pay taxes on it? I get it. You pay taxes on land that is owned. However, what sense does it really make to continue to pay for something that has already been bought and paid for? For example, if someone buys a car with cash money and pays the tax, title, and license for the vehicle, why should they have to continue to pay to have the registration updated every year? Isn’t that similar to double taxation? People work hard to purchase and pay-off their homes and vehicles. To force them to continue to pay taxes over and over indefinitely sounds a bit like the Mafia used to do to people who owned businesses. They used to charge them a certain amount for protection of running their enterprises. What a racket. Most tax payers understand the necessity of funding essential needs within their communities, such as local schools, libraries, emergency services, and other service programs, but to continuously be forced to pay taxes on property already paid for and taxed just does not set right with many people.
If the average person would total up just how much money he or she spends on goods and services every day, the sales tax would start to really add up. Just think of it. All of the household goods that are purchased every day, the gasoline that is purchased, food and drink, and so on all have taxes affixed to them. Moreover, the monthly expenditures also bare taxes. The electricity, gas, telephone , cell phone, cable, water bills, health, life, and vehicle insurance premiums are all taxed each month. If sales taxes are paid on all of the aforementioned, seems to me there should be more than enough revenue to fund the essential needs of local, state, and federal governments. Therefore, what is the purpose of being taxed repeatedly on property and vehicles? It seems as though when someone says, “I own a house,” that is not necessarily true considering if taxes are not paid every year on the house, that home becomes someone else’s.
Therefore, if people are paying taxes everyday and every month on goods and services, why are they forced to hand over payroll and income taxes? Despite the fact the Sixteenth Amendment, ratified by congress in 1913, gives the federal government the right to levy income taxes; the stain of double taxation seems to be forever present. Again, people work hard for their wages. To have earnings taxed every pay period before a dime is seen seems peculiar because after giving Uncle Sam his due and receiving your wages, you are taxed again on whatever you purchase. Furthermore, people are tired of seeing the government bailout corporate banks and other entities only to continue the same practices that caused their demise in the first place. Who bails out the common tax payer when he or she needs help? Enough is enough.
