Reading positive literature is an absolute must to help you grow into the businessperson or salesperson you want to be and the life you want. Reading, or listening to, positive literature edifies us and is a relatively small task that pays enormous dividends if done consistently and meaningfully.
Unlike a physical workout that can take 1-2 hours, the brain workout only involves 10-15 minutes a day. There are two specific reasons that you will want to do so:
Reading positive literature mentally exercises our mind to process new ideas and rekindle old ones that are of value.
Reading positive helps to counteract negative or neutral influences such as: TV, Radio and other forms of entertainment, as well as friends, family, job, etc.
For example, if you multiply the 15 minutes a day that you read times 365 days this equals 5,475 minutes. Then divide the 5,475 minutes by 60 minutes, and you come up with 91 ¼ hours of reading positive literature per year. That is a very powerful concept when you think about it.
“The difference between you today and 5 years from now are the books you read and the people you meet.”Charlie “Tremendous” Jones
What type of positive literature? Nonfiction books, magazines, videos, audiobooks, as well as some fictional books that have the potential to help you improve your life. This would include books on sales, personal development, personal finance, business, motivational, negotiation, and biographies of successful people that you would like to emulate in at least one area of your life.
Start with something that appeals to you in order to help you learn the habit of reading positive literature every day. Notice this old proverb:
“For the despondent, every day brings trouble; for the happy heart, life is a continual feast.” Proverbs 15:15 (New Living Translation)
You will be amazed at the powerful effect a positive outlook that is renewed daily will have on your life.
