Trusting You
When I turned to you
Your salesmen said,
“You’ll live forever—‘tis true!
He failed to warn
Of trials and cares,
Or of the coming storms.
In fact he preached
Quite faithfully
Of wealth and health—prosperity.
He placed his hand
Upon my head
And his prophecy began.
“True blessing’s ahead
Thus says the Lord
Abundance He will shed.”
Ne’er once did he say
Take up my cross.
Nor did he warn, I’d suffer loss.
I followed him tho’
to my own hurt,
It was the only way to go.
My faithfulness grew
With trust in man.
I’d risked all—‘specially YOU.
Until the day
His health grew bad,
And my faith—it could not heal.
I had been told
To just believe
HE’ll honor my faith—so bold!
To move that mountain
Laid hands on man
And called down HIS healing fountain.
And for his kin,
His friend and fo’,
I prayed ‘til I was shoutin’.
The day then came
To say good-bye
I wept bitterly—in shame.
For I believed
With all my heart
My faith could bring him back.
Then from that day
My heart closed up
To men and all they’d say.
I could hear
Not one more plea
To pray or trust—Don’t fear.
But then You came
And challenged me
To search the Word myself.
To find the truth
Within that Book
That faith belongs to YOU!
You met me there
With open arms
And shared with me Your love.
You taught me Lord
To trust in You.
Test teachers against Your Word.
I began to grow
In strength and trust.
It’s You I grew to know.
Now in the stillness
Of my broken heart
Faith in You is blessed.
