Ever seen an ant, felt one tickle as it made its way across your leg at the family picnic; it was barely large enough to cover the quick of your fingernail, yet you knew it was there. How easy was it to end that ant’s existence by the simple act of scraping a paper towel across its body and dismembering it?
Several months ago I watched a video called “Indescribable” with a teaching by Leo Giglio. This man showed the awesomeness of God through astronomy. One of the photos, taken by one of the space shuttles, appeared to be a throw-away. You know the kind; you take film in for developing and get those pictures back with the inevitable “black” one. Perhaps your thumb found its way in front of the lens, so you throw it away.
That is what this picture looked like with one whitish streak diagonally across it. Pastor Giglio explained that the astronauts said the white line was a ray of the sun, although this shuttle was thousands of light-years away from the sun. What an amazing thing, right?
Pastor Giglio then went on to show the same picture as he zoomed in on that line. Somewhere in there was a tiny black speck, which he said was in all actuality, the earth. That speck was no larger than a speck of dust.
This picture amazes me. I don’t need anyone to show me proof of the existence of God, or that I am not as big as Him; but putting in perspective for me the largeness of HIM simply astounds me. Scripture tells us that He measures the heavens with the span of His hand. (Isaiah 40:12)
Can you imagine that? A God so big, that He can measure the entire universe with the span of His hand? In relation to His enormity, I am as an ant, yet instead of flicking me away or squishing me between His fingers, He lifts me up, and whispers, “You are the apple of My eye.” (Zech.2:8) This really brings to life the Word where it says, “What shall we say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Rom 8:31 NKJV)
So, friend, be encouraged. You are not insignificant in His eyes. He saw you from the beginning and planned on your time here on earth. As big as He is, and as awesome as He is, His love for you and me is greater still.
