MAGNOLIA ISD - On Friday, January 13th, 2012, Magnolia ISD held its
annual Rodeo Art Show sponsored by the Houston Livestock Show and
Rodeo. The School Art Committee Judges reviewed all of the district’s
artwork entries. Magnolia High School students Senior Katlynn Hallisey
and Junior Katrina English were selected as Gold Medal winners. They
will have their artwork on display at Reliant Arena for the duration
of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo season and will be honored at
a special ceremony on Saturday, March 3rd, 2012. They will also have
the opportunity to have their artwork compete against the artwork of
other Houston area winners for a chance to be auctioned in the Rodeo’s
School Art Auction. Congratulations to each and every one of these
artists on a job well done.

MAGNOLIA ISD - The FCS Department at Magnolia West welcomes 300
students to their program for the 2011-2012 school year. Each student
is enrolled in a class that follows a career pathway which consists
of: Human Services, Education & Training, and Hospitality &
Tourism. Classes are underway, TEKS are being introduced and the
energy level is high as the 3 teachers prepare the students for
another successful year! Their student led organization, FCCLA, is
being presented to each class and dues are being collected. Their goal
is to beat last year’s enrollment of 120 members and to take more
teams to Region, State and National Competition!

MAGNOLIA ISD - Forty-two students at Magnolia High School have earned
AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on
the 2011 AP Exams taken last May. The College Board’s Advanced
Placement Program (AP) provides willing and academically prepared
students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses
while in high school and to earn college credit for their successful
performance on the AP Exams. About 18 percent of the more than 1.9
million students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a
sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award.

MAGNOLIA ISD - During the June Magnolia ISD board meeting, Dr. Todd
Stephens and Board President Cecil Bell, Jr., presented individual
plaques to the inaugural committee members of Leadership Magnolia ISD,
an initiative which began in March 2011.

MAGNOLIA ISD - In the Camp Invention SPARK program, campers are
building creative thinking skills that will last them a lifetime. They
are learning to produce and consider many alternatives, be open to new
ideas, make rich connections, work in teams with diverse perspectives,
and imagine possibilities.

MAGNOLIA ISD - This is the seventh year Fishing Buddies has been
hosted at the Magnolia High School ag pond and has now expanded to
include visits from the Life Skills students of all four secondary
school campuses in the District: Magnolia High School, Magnolia West
High School, Magnolia Junior High, and Bear Branch Junior High.

MAGNOLIA ISD - Lexi Giles and Brandon Rinker, Magnolia High School
seniors, have been named as 2012 National Merit Semi-Finalists. Their
high PSAT scores represent the less than 1 percent of the nation’s
high school graduating seniors. Lexi and Brandon will now compete for
some 8,400 Merit Scholarship awards.
Having a life-long love
for animals, Lexi plans to pursue a Veterinarian
degree from A&M
University. Brandon, who is interested in the
medical field, plans
to major in pre-med at A&M University, followed
by a degree in
Psychiatry from Baylor College of Medicine. Being named
National
Merit Semi-Finalists validates the commitment Lexi and Brandon
have
made to their academic excellence in pursuit of their chosen fields
of study.

MAGNOLIA ISD - Magnolia West High School was recently represented at
the 2011 FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California.
FCCLA stand for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and is
the only student led organization with family as its central
focus.

MAGNOLIA ISD - Two Magnolia High School seniors were recognized during
the June Magnolia ISD board meeting for their academic accomplishments
gained while competing at the UIL State Competition this past May.

MAGNOLIA ISD - On
Veterans Day, students from Magnolia and
Williams Elementary began
collecting change to purchase American
flags. Students were able to
purchase over 1,000 flags with these
donations. Students from both
campuses competed to win a chance to
deliver the flags to the Houston
Veterans Administration Cemetery by
writing an essay about Their
Military Hero. On Memorial
Day, May
30, 2011, in a show of respect and gratitude, these students
placed
the 1,000 flags amongst the memorials.

MHS Health Science Student attending Medical Conference
Joey
Cassata and Lexis Hughes, both sophomores at Magnolia High School,
were nominated and accepted to represent their school and community at
the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine in Houston Texas this
summer. Their Health Science teacher, Mrs. Halbert, nominated these
students because of their outstanding work ethic in her class and
passion about the medical field.

MAGNOLIA ISD - The annual MISD Chess Tournament was held on May 19,
2011. The room was filled with 148 elementary school students, but the
only sound heard was the moving of chess pieces on the boards.
