HOUSTON ISD – HISD now ranks third among the nation’s large-city school districts when it comes to ensuring that all eligible children are served a healthy breakfast, according to a report Tuesday by the food advocacy group, Food Research and Action Center (FRAC).

Last year, the Houston Independent School District served breakfast to 70 low-income students for every 100 receiving reduced-price lunch.

“In HISD, we have high academic expectations for all children,” said Superintendent Terry Grier. “We also know that students do their best work when their basic needs are met, and that means ensuring that each child begins the day with a healthy meal.”
