Thank you for making our Stuff A Bus uniform drive a success! Special thanks to Alief ISD Maintenance and Custodial Department, Transportation Department, Elsik High School cheerleaders and PALS, Alief Middle School Orchestra, Youens Student Choir, Hastings Jazz Band, and Albright Singers.

Rain or shine, the Alief ISD Stuff-A-Bus event will continue as planned today from 7 to 4, outside the Administration Building – 4250 Cook Rd. (just off Alief Clodine/Westpark Toll Road) The hope is to fill the empty shelves at the school district’s Uniform Effort Clothing Pantry. The goal is to stuff a bus full of new and gently used school uniforms and jackets, new packages of boys’ and girls’ underwear and socks, belts and school supplies.

Alief Kerr High School principal, Greg Freeman, announced that Samantha Le, Helen Ramirez, and Dingyi Yang have been named Commended Students in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program. Letters of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, have been presented to these scholastically talented seniors.

The Alief ISD Education Foundation is dedicated to supporting both teachers and students in the district. The foundation offers mini-grants to teachers for extra classroom supplies, books, and equipment that can enhance learning opportunities but could not be covered by a regular school budget. It also offers student scholarships for graduating Alief ISD seniors, and provides numerous school uniforms and school supplies to needy students.

Reach Out 2 Dropouts!

Reach Out 2 Dropouts is a community outreach effort, supported by Houston Mayor Bill White and First Lady, Andrea White. The city-wide venture is meant to reconnect students to high schools across our area and to increase districts’ overall graduation rates. Joining Alief is A+ Challenge, a non-project organization which has a mission to assist all children in receiving a quality education.

For the 2009-10 school year the Alief ISD School Board passed a $1,992 raise for teachers and other employees will receive a 3.75% midpoint salary increase.
