SOUTH ASIA - Geet seemed to have the ideal family. She had a husband and two adult sons, and was devoted to her gods. She also had a daughter-in-law, Haimi, who was married to her oldest son. The younger son was studying for his Bachelors of Arts degree, and was in his final year of college.

BISHKEK, KYRGYZSTAN - More than a week after a church break-in which left one woman seriously injured, it is now being reported that another church in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan has been the subject of a similar crime.

“Witnesses say four men entered the church, severely beat a local woman, and stole money and equipment,” said Jed Courley, pastor of the first church that was attacked.

JOS, NIGERIA - At least four women, one man, one boy and girl have been murdered close to the Nigerian city of Jos. The death toll includes the wife, two children and grandson of a local pastor. Some estimates say that as many as ten people may have been killed in the brutal attack.

CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA - The UK-based website, Ekklesia (www.ekklesia.co.uk), has revealed that Nobel Peace Prize laureate Desmond Tutu has announced his intention to wind down his public engagements, when he turns 79 in October 2010.

"I think I have done as much as I can, and I really do need time for other things that I have wanted to do," Dr Tutu told a media briefing at St George's Cathedral in Cape Town.

AUSTRALIA - Since late May TNI (Indonesian military) and BRIMOB (militarised police) forces have been conducting 'sweeping operations' in the central highlands Puncak Jaya region of Papua (formerly Irian Jaya). This was ostensibly to flush out the 'separatists' they blame (without evidence) for two recent attacks. Indonesia keeps Papua closed to international media and human rights organisations.
