Americans love to save money, especially in a tight economy. And everyone loves a good deal when a great product or service can be purchased at little to no money. Plus, when you profit from using what you bought, you are ahead financially and have a great feeling that you saved money and got a great bargain. On top of those benefits of being fiscally conservative and being a savvy shopper, when you can come out with being healthier as a result you have won the Trifecta of Consumerism. That is really something to smile about.

Saving money is a great goal, especially with your dental health. Oral hygiene is no laughing matter, but you'll be laughing all the way to the bank when you score a deal with a dental plan that saves you a lot. Discount dental plans are a really good way to keep your costs down and receive significant value. They are typically sold as a non-insurance membership that provides consumers access to participating dental offices in a network.

Early childhood tooth decay is one of the most common infectious diseases found in indigenous children in the United States and Canada, resulting in additional adverse health effects.

In a new policy statement, “Early Childhood Caries in Indigenous Communities,” in the June 2011 issue of Pediatrics (published online Monday, May 30), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS) provide recommendations for the prevention of dental disease in young children and pregnant women, through collaboration with primary health care providers, policy makers, and public health practitioners in indigenous communities.

A study using research assistants who posed as mothers of a 10-year-old boy with a fractured front tooth seeking an urgent dental appointment measured dentists’ willingness to provide treatment to children with Medicaid/CHIP versus private insurance.

The study, “Disparities in Child Access to Emergency Care for Acute Oral Injury,” in the June 2011 issue of Pediatrics (published online May 23) found that even when calling Medicaid-enrolled dentists, only 68 percent of children with Medicaid/CHIP were able to obtain an appointment compared to 100 percent of privately-insured children with the same injury.

If you are one of the many people who have a fear of dental work, then consider dental sedation when you visit your dentist. Dental sedation is used for those individuals who are very afraid of having dental work done, regardless of their age. Sedation dentistry is used to provide a relaxing and anxiety-free experience for certain people receiving dental treatment. It enables individuals too afraid to go to the dentist to receive the dental care they need while avoiding the common apprehension known as dental phobia. According to to the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS Education), a professional dental organization dedicated to ensuring that patients receive safe, comfortable and anxiety-free dental care, 30 percent of the population avoids the dentist due to fear. This all-too-common “dental phobia” prevents people from receiving necessary routine dental care, potentially compromising the health and functionality of their mouth and smile.

How was your first experience with a dentist? Was it when you were a child and your Mother took you trembling and shaking into the dental office? Was your first time in the chair one of fear and trepidation because all you heard were horror stories from your friends? Did you have anxiety about what was going to happen because of all the weird looking tools and equipment. Was your dentist a kind and gentle older person, or young and hip? Many people are afraid to go to the dentist, and some of that comes from memories of childhood anxieties when they were getting cavities filled or a cleaning by the dental hygienist. Some of those fears may be well founded if the first visit as a child is not positive, and some continue as phobias because of general experiences that may be very uncomfortable.

Going to the dentist takes time. If you're a working man or woman, you typically will need to miss time away from the office or your jobsite when you go to your appointment. Even if you only go for a cleaning once every six months, that still counts as time missed for productivity that otherwise would be beneficial towards your economic betterment. However, not going to the dentist for even minor preventive procedures will definitely result in more serious oral health issues later that require even a greater amount of time missed from work.

When night is deep, and sleep is deeper, a magical character comes to deliver cold cash to those who slumber with a tooth as payment in return. Swiftly, deftly, without disturbing a single hair, or causing any wrinkle on the sheets, the quick hand of the Tooth Fairy snatches the tooth and replaces it with a monetary gift. It's a story that has been told down through the ages, and children believe the tale as if it were as real as themselves. Just ask, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson about it, as he played in a fun-loving family flick that casts the big man as a hockey player forced to wear wings and collect the incisors of small children, according to MTV. "The Rock"is slapped with a tough sentence after discouraging a young fan - serving one week as a real tooth fairy, according to HollywoodOutbreak.com.

One of the most requested new dental procedures that has become very popular over the past few years is dental implants. All the young hip kids are talking about it, and dentists. Dental implants are artificial tooth replacements used to counter tooth loss, according to YourDentistryGuide.com. The procedure is categorized as a form of prosthetic (artificial replacement) dentistry, though it also falls into the category of cosmetic dentistry as well. Although you have a number of restorative options for the treatment of missing teeth, none have proven to be as functionally effective and durable as implants. In many cases, dental implants may be the only logical choice for the restoration of all necessary functionality of the teeth and supporting structures.
