Washington DC (C-FAM) - A widely publicized report in The Lancet medical journal calling for the legalization of abortion contained inflated numbers, flawed data collection and highly misleading language.

The recent article on “Induced Abortion: incidence and trends worldwide from 1995 to 2008” updates abortion estimates to show progress on improving maternal health. The Alan Guttmacher Institute and staffers with the World Health Organization claim the number of unsafe abortions per 1,000 women has risen from 44% to 49% between 1995 and 2008 while the global abortion rate has declined from 29 to 28 abortions per 1,000 women of childbearing age. “Unsafe abortions” are concentrated in developing countries.

Washington , D.C. - Tuesday, Susan G. Komen for the Cure announced that the foundation will not partner with Planned Parenthood affiliates in part because of a new policy against funding organizations under investigation.

Planned Parenthood is the nation's largest abortion provider, performing nearly 330,000 abortions in fiscal year 2010, while only making 841 adoption referrals during that time. Planned Parenthood has received hundreds of thousands of dollars annually for breast cancer prevention from Susan G. Komen. However, over the past year it became known that Planned Parenthood clinics do not perform mammograms but instead only perform manual breast exams. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has said that manual breast exams are not proven effective in screening for breast cancer; mammograms are needed.

USTIN, TX  - Attorneys with Jubilee Campaign's Law of Life Project and two other pro-life legal defense organizations announced this morning that they have filed a new verified amended complaint, an amended motion for preliminary injunction and an application for temporary restraining order asking the federal court, no later than this Friday, to enjoin the Ordinance (Chapter 10-10) which the City of Austin enacted last Thursday right after they repealed a similar Ordinance (Chapter 10-9) ostensibly "to avoid further litigation costs."

BOSTON, MA - Mitt Romney made the following statement on the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade:

“Today marks the 39th anniversary of one of the darkest moments in Supreme Court history, when the court in Roe v. Wade claimed authority over the fundamental question regarding the rights of the unborn. The result is millions of lives since that day have been tragically silenced. Since that day, the pro-life movement has been working tirelessly in an effort to change hearts and minds and protect the weakest and most vulnerable among us. Today, we recommit ourselves to reversing that decision, for in the quiet of conscience, people of both political parties know that more than a million abortions a year cannot be squared with the good heart of America.”

Life Matters published a website which displays a real-time counter of the number of abortions occurring worldwide and in the United States. The numbers are staggering. In just over four days in 2012 there have already been over 14,000 unborn babies aborted in the U.S. alone – and over 485,000 worldwide.

“The eleven abortion counters include: number of abortions in the US today, number of abortions in the US since Roe versus Wade (1973), number of abortions in the US this year, number of abortions in the US this year due to rape or incest, number of abortions in the US this year after 16 weeks gestation, number of abortions by Planned Parenthood since 1970, and the number of aborions by planned Parenthood this year, number of abortions worldwide since 1980, number of abortions worldwide this year, and number of abortions worldwide today.”

WASHINGTON, DC (C-FAM) - It did not take long for a new study finding a link between abortion and mental health to spark unfounded criticism of the paper and attacks against the author.

The prestigious British Journal of Psychiatry (BJP) recently published “Abortion and Mental Health: Quantitative Synthesis and Analysis of Research Published 1995-2009.” The paper, a culmination of Dr. Priscilla Coleman’s extensive experience in the field of abortion and mental health, finds that women who have undergone abortion have an 81% increase in the risk of mental health problems, and an even greater risk for substance misuse and suicidal behaviour (230% and 155% respectively). Nearly 10% of the incidence of all mental health problems was shown to be directly attributable to abortion.

Citizens for a Pro-life Society announces a new website: imagesofabortion.com, strictly dedicated to photography of unborn children killed by legalized abortion. The purpose of the site is to serve as a resource tool for pro-lifers, as well as an educational tool for the general public—a website that reveals the reality of abortion through actual images of unborn children.

The site is controversial, hard-hitting and disturbing. The over 350 photos depict unborn children killed in suction, dialation and evacuation, prostaglandin and saline abortions. The majority of the unborn children were retrieved from abortion clinic trash dumpsters in Illinois and Michigan, often by members of CPLS—or came from pathology labs at various hospitals in those states and Wisconsin between 1987 and 2010. All of these victims were given humane burials. The unborn babies range in age from 6 weeks to 7 months gestation. Videos of the retrievals, as well as videos of the burials of these aborted babies are also available on the site.

NEW YORK, NY (C-FAM) It is commonplace now for UN officials and American law professors to tell foreign governments that they are required by international law to liberalize their abortion laws. Just last month the UN Special Rapporteur on Health issued a report making this claim. The Secretary General endorsed his report. Shortly thereafter the UN High Commission on Human Rights said the same thing.

Pro-life activists have been saying for years that this is a false assertion. Even so, some governments have started to listen and to liberalize their laws. The High Court of Colombia changed their abortion laws based on these assertions from a UN committee. Two judges on the Mexican High Court have made these assertions also.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - On January 21, 2012, tens of thousands of pro-life activists massed in front of San Francisco's City Hall and then filled the city's main thoroughfare, walking about two miles down Market Street to the Embarcadero.

Banging drums, playing guitars and chanting "We are pro-life," the enthusiastic throngs filled Market Street and stopped all traffic for more than a mile. Organizers estimated more than 40,000 attended the Walk.

"We are here to say life is the choice and women are hurt by abortion," said Dolores Meehan, co-chair of the Walk for Life West Coast, which is held on the Saturday closest to the anniversary of the Supreme Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling legalizing abortion.

NEW YORK, NY (C-FAM) - For decades, a basic tenet of the international population-control lobby has been that declining fertility rates will generate a more stable international order. But according to an impressive panel of scholars who have contributed to a new book, this scenario of “geriatric peace” is untenably optimistic.

Population Decline and the Remaking of Great Power Politics is a collection of nine research essays, published by Potomac Books and edited by C-FAM senior vice president Susan Yoshihara and C-FAM senior fellow Douglas Sylva. In the book’s foreword, demographer and political economist Nicholas Eberstadt applauds its contributors for tackling the “profound and as-yet unanswered questions” associated with population decline and international politics.

Ministry also applauds pro-life bill in Congress that seeks to illuminate the reality of life in the womb

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - Focus on the Family set the record straight today on ultrasound statistics reported in the media and used by Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn.

On Oct. 6, Congressman Bachman introduced a pro-life bill requiring abortion providers to make a preborn child’s heartbeat audible and visible to mothers considering abortion. Bachman mentioned a Focus “study” showing 78 percent of women who see and hear the fetal heartbeat choose life for their child among the reasons why she introduced the bill.

Unfortunately, that data — released by Focus on the Family in 2008 — isn’t completely accurate.

New award-winning documentary is changing minds and saving lives

DALLAS/FORT WORTH, TX — What would you do if…? Thus begins the question being asked by author and film producer Ray Comfort in his new documentary,180. Titled to reflect the complete turnaround in the mindsets of all to whom the question is posed, the award-winning film shows eight pro-choice people (mostly college students) changing their stance to pro-life just moments after the question is asked in its entirety. It is Comfort’s hope that the documentary, releasing online September 26th, will go viral.

While skeptics of 180 (Living Waters Publications) say they can’t believe anyone would change his or her mind so quickly, Comfort accepts and even understands their disbelief, stating that he could hardly believe it himself when he first viewed the footage in the editing room.
