Local Kid-Bands Perform at Music Festival in Deep Ellum to Raise Money for Music Scholarships

DALLAS, TX - Imagine seeing Bruce Springsteen at a concert when he was 12 years old, or watching Paul McCartney perform at the age of 16. Families in the DFW Metroplex may be decades too late to view those musicians perform as children but locals can now experience up-and-coming rock stars perform at the nation�s only Rockstravaganza on Memorial Day Weekend.

Rockstravaganza is a day-long music festival on May 27, 2012. Over eighty bands�from kid-bands to musical headliners�will perform throughout the day playing everything from 70s Rock to Southern Rock to Indie Punk. The headliner bands include The Virgin Wolves, Trebuchet and Home by Hovercraft. This all happens in the renovated warehouse district of Deep Ellum; the birthplace of many new bands.

TEXAS MUSIC OFFICE ANNOUNCES LIVE MUSIC GRANT PROGRAM

The Texas Music Office, a division of the Office of the Governor, Friday announced the creation of the Live Music Grant Program, which will fund free, live-music concerts across the state. The program is made possible by a settlement from the Compact Disc Minimum Advertised Price Antitrust litigation and does not utilize taxpayer dollars.

Grant applicants must partner with a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization or a city or county government office willing to pay the upfront cost of the concert. The nonprofit or city/county government organization will then be reimbursed by the Texas Music Office once the grant is approved.

More than $173,000 is available for the program as a result of a settlement from the Compact Disc Minimum Advertised Price Antitrust litigation. The maximum grant amount per concert is $1,500 and grants will be awarded until all the funds have been distributed. No taxpayer dollars will be used to fund these grants.

Eighth annual Student Life event another success

CYPRESS, TX - Three Lone Star College-CyFair students sing and dance for six judges and an audience of more than 360 to win the Lone Star College-CyFair �Masquerade� Eighth Annual Talent Show.

Winning first-place with the dance performance titled �Dance Evolution Mix� was Gabriel Luna, II. Taking second and third respectively, were Matt Gutierrez with beat boxing and Tomachia Jones with her rendition of �All I can do is Cry.� Luna and Gutierrez are both representatives from the Barker Cypress campus and Jones was a representative of LSC-Fairbanks Center.

�This year�s show was a great success from audience attendance to the student participation and variety of talent, which was not only entertaining but so impressive that it was difficult for our judges to only choose three winners,� said Student Life Program Manager Daniel Villanueva.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - With all due respect to the American/British poet, T.S. Eliot, April is not always the cruelest month, at least here in America-where, ironically, the National Poetry Month takes place.

T.S. Eliot penned this line in his famous poem The Waste Land in 1922. The National Poetry Month was established in 1996. Somewhere within the 74 years of the poem's inception and the creation of a month to highlight poetry, good ol' April was chosen as the season to celebrate verse.

Works for me. May not for Eliot.

NEW COMIC BOOK SERIES CALLED 'FAITH' FEATURES THE LIFE OF JESUS CHRIST

MIAMI, FL - Many who went to Sunday school may remember comic books about the life of Jesus as a great and entertaining way to understand the life of the Lord and Savior. Now Bluewater Productions, an independent comic book publisher, is launching 'Faith,' a new series featuring the biographies of various biblical and religious figures.

A new version of the comic book is now available to the NOOK and Kindle. It will also be out on the IPAD as well.

According to a news release, the inaugural issue, which features Jesus Christ, became available in April just before the Easter holiday. Future issues will feature such iconic heroes as King David and highlight various religious leaders throughout history.
