The judgment Jude 15 is speaking of will span all of mans time on the earth, from Adam and Enoch's time before the flood till the second coming of Christ. Popular culture and its increasing frequency and levels of blasphemy will be judged.

THYATIRA�S TRANSGRESSION: TOLERATING JEZEBEL

We live in a time when the idol, Tolerance, is worshipped from the least to the greatest. If we as Christians dare make a moral judgment, or indeed any kind of judgment, we are immediately labeled as being intolerant. If we decry the slaughter of babies that is carried out each day in abortion mills we are accused of being intolerant of women and their bodies. Abortion should be a private matter between a woman and her doctor according to those whose consciences have been warped by the propaganda of Planned Parenthood and others like them. If we speak out on the sinfulness of homosexuality we are called intolerant and homophobic. If we speak out about the virtues of motherhood and how children flourish when mom is there for them, we are accused of being sexist and trying to subject women to the control of men. And in our increasingly pluralistic society if we tell others that salvation comes through Jesus Christ alone, that all other religions and beliefs are vain and hopelessly incapable of making us acceptable to God, the idol, Tolerance, grows to mammoth proportions.

One of the most amazing things about Enoch is he prophesied of the second coming of Christ, and he did so after there had been only one promise of a first coming in Genesis 3:15. What's more, there is no Old Testament record of Enoch prophesying. I love spiritual mysteries!

⁴ So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. ⁵ He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. ⁶ While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, ⁷ and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

Jude 13 gives more characteristics of these last day apostates, and how we can identify them. It is very needful to know who they are because we can avoid being led astray by them and perhaps steer others away from their deceit.

Jude writes to us the warning that there are people in the church who are not really Christians, they are like hidden reefs below the surface that cause shipwreck of other vessels, there is no fruit in their lives. They have none of the water of eternal life in their hearts nor do they offer it to others.

In Jude 11 we see three grievous sins that are not only characteristic of false teachers, but we as true believers can be tempted to fall into them also. We must guard our hearts and pray for our church leaders and if by chance we can't get behind what they are doing we must prayerfully and gracefully leave and find another fellowship.

Jesus identifies Himself to the Church at Pergamum as, �the One who has the sharp two-edged sword� (Revelation 2:12). This word �sword� is first used in Luke 2:35 where Simeon is prophesying to Mary about the infant Jesus. After speaking of Jesus he turns to Mary and tells her, �and a sword will pierce even your own soul � to the end that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.� The purpose of the sword was to reveal that which was hidden deep within so that the motives and intentions of people would be exposed. Thus, what may look like love, compassion, or goodness on the outside may be generated by ulterior motives. What appears to be love may be nothing more than greed such as when a man professes to love a woman when he is only interested in her money. Compassion could be a ruse to �get in good� with someone who could be beneficial to us later. Goodness can disguise an evil heart. We all wear masks. The sword is used to remove the masks so that truth can be known.

These ungodly ministers defile the flesh and walk in apostasy in the same way as the previously mentioned examples, Israel, the fallen angels and the inhabitants of the cities of the plain, Sodom and Gomorrah.

One by one the warnings are given by Jude, warnings given in order to avoid the errors promoted by false teachers. Here homosexuality is being listed as one of the errors these false teachers will present. Obviously the example set forth is not being heeded in our day, in fact the Biblical example is mocked.

There is a saying that goes, �No pain, no gain�. It is remarkable what we as human beings will endure to enhance the appearance of our bodies. We starve ourselves by trying the latest diet fad; we get up at very early hours to run in all kinds of weather; we spend millions of dollars a year on exercise equipment ranging from the simple to the complex that require us to work ourselves to exhaustion; or we join a health club to work ourselves to exhaustion thinking that if we share our misery with others we will be more successful. Successful at what?

In Jude 6 we see the second example of apostasy that Jude is warning us about in this epistle. The LORD did not put up with apostasy in Israel or with the angels. We must take these warnings to heart.

Jude is a fascinating book in many ways. One of the things that Jude reveals is that apostasy is found in all time periods, even in the first century only decades after the death and resurrection of our Lord. 

WHAT�S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT?

�But I have this against you, that you have left your first love�(Revelation 2:4). Speaking to the first of the Seven Churches in Revelation Jesus confronts the Ephesians with this truth. He says many good things about them, but also points out this failing concerning love.

A few years ago singer Tina Turner had a hit song entitled �What�s Love Got To Do With It?� It demeans love as nothing more than a �second-hand emotion�. Sadly, our world, and even Christians, that is, true, born-again Christians, have a tendency to allow love to become unnecessary, something that takes second place to doing. Jesus told the Ephesians, �I know your deeds and your toil and perseverance, and that you cannot tolerate evil men, and you put to the test those who call themselves apostles, and they are not, and you found them to befalse; and you have perseverance and have endured for My name's sake, and have not grown weary� (Revelation 2:2-3). What a wonderful commendation; one that any Christian would be glad to have said about him. However, Jesus goes on to say, �But I have thisagainst you, that you have left your first love�(Revelation 2:4).
