FAMILY RESEARCH COUNCIL COMMENDS SUSAN G. KOMEN FOUNDATION FOR HALTING GRANTS TO LARGEST ABORTION PROVIDER

Washington , D.C. - Tuesday, Susan G. Komen for the Cure announced that the foundation will not partner with Planned Parenthood affiliates in part because of a new policy against funding organizations under investigation.

Planned Parenthood is the nation's largest abortion provider, performing nearly 330,000 abortions in fiscal year 2010, while only making 841 adoption referrals during that time. Planned Parenthood has received hundreds of thousands of dollars annually for breast cancer prevention from Susan G. Komen. However, over the past year it became known that Planned Parenthood clinics do not perform mammograms but instead only perform manual breast exams. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has said that manual breast exams are not proven effective in screening for breast cancer; mammograms are needed.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - On January 21, 2012,
tens of thousands of pro-life activists massed in front of San Francisco's City

than 40,000 attended the Walk.

'We are here to say life is the
choice and women are hurt by abortion,' said Dolores Meehan, co-chair of
the Walk for Life West Coast, which is held on the Saturday closest to the
anniversary of the Supreme Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling legalizing

MITT ROMNEY: "A MILLION ABORTIONS A YEAR CANNOT BE SQUARED WITH THE GOOD HEART OF AMERICA"

BOSTON, MA - Mitt Romney made the following statement on the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade:

“Today marks the 39th anniversary of one of the darkest moments in Supreme Court history, when the court in Roe v. Wade claimed authority over the fundamental question regarding the rights of the unborn. The result is millions of lives since that day have been tragically silenced. Since that day, the pro-life movement has been working tirelessly in an effort to change hearts and minds and protect the weakest and most vulnerable among us. Today, we recommit ourselves to reversing that decision, for in the quiet of conscience, people of both political parties know that more than a million abortions a year cannot be squared with the good heart of America.”
ABORTION COUNTER WEBSITE SHOWS OVER 1 BILLION ABORTED WORLDWIDE SINCE 1980...OVER 14,000 IN U.S. IN FIRST FOUR DAYS OF 2012

By Lisa Correnti

Life Matters published a website which displays a real-time counter of the number of abortions occurring worldwide and in the United States. The numbers are staggering. In just over four days in 2012 there have already been over 14,000 unborn babies aborted in the U.S. alone – and over 485,000 worldwide.

“The eleven abortion counters include: number of abortions in the US today, number of abortions in the US since Roe versus Wade (1973), number of abortions in the US this year, number of abortions in the US this year due to rape or incest, number of abortions in the US this year after 16 weeks gestation, number of abortions by Planned Parenthood since 1970, and the number of aborions by planned Parenthood this year, number of abortions worldwide since 1980, number of abortions worldwide this year, and number of abortions worldwide today.”
HOW POPULATION CONTROL HAS HARMED NATIONAL SECURITY

By Tom McFeely

NEW YORK, NY (C-FAM) - For decades, a basic tenet of the international population-control lobby has been that declining fertility rates will generate a more stable international order. But according to an impressive panel of scholars who have contributed to a new book, this scenario of “geriatric peace” is untenably optimistic.

Population Decline and the Remaking of Great Power Politics is a collection of nine research essays, published by Potomac Books and edited by C-FAM senior vice president Susan Yoshihara and C-FAM senior fellow Douglas Sylva. In the book’s foreword, demographer and political economist Nicholas Eberstadt applauds its contributors for tackling the “profound and as-yet unanswered questions” associated with population decline and international politics.
CRITICS' ATTACKS ON ABORTION/MENTAL HEALTH STUDY BASELESS

By Lucia Muchova

WASHINGTON, DC (C-FAM) - It did not take long for a new study finding a link between abortion and mental health to spark unfounded criticism of the paper and attacks against the author.

The prestigious British Journal of Psychiatry (BJP) recently published “Abortion and Mental Health: Quantitative Synthesis and Analysis of Research Published 1995-2009.” The paper, a culmination of Dr. Priscilla Coleman’s extensive experience in the field of abortion and mental health, finds that women who have undergone abortion have an 81% increase in the risk of mental health problems, and an even greater risk for substance misuse and suicidal behaviour (230% and 155% respectively). Nearly 10% of the incidence of all mental health problems was shown to be directly attributable to abortion.
WEBSITE TO FOCUS ON ABORTION IMAGES

Citizens for a Pro-life Society
announces a new website: imagesofabortion.com,
strictly dedicated to photography of unborn children killed by legalized abortion.
The purpose of the site is to serve as a resource tool for pro-lifers, as well
as an educational tool for the general public—a website that reveals the
reality of abortion through actual images of unborn children.

The site is controversial, hard-hitting
and disturbing. The over 350 photos depict unborn children killed in suction,
dialation and evacuation, prostaglandin and saline abortions. The
majority of the unborn children were retrieved from abortion clinic trash
dumpsters in Illinois and Michigan, often by members of CPLS—or came from
pathology labs at various hospitals in those states and Wisconsin between 1987
and 2010. All of these victims were given humane burials. The unborn
babies range in age from 6 weeks to 7 months gestation. Videos of the
retrievals, as well as videos of the burials of these aborted babies are also
available on the site.

Michele Bachmann, R-Minn.

On Oct. 6, Congressman Bachman introduced a pro-life bill requiring abortion providers to make a preborn child’s heartbeat audible and visible to mothers considering abortion. Bachman mentioned a Focus “study” showing 78 percent of women who see and hear the fetal heartbeat choose life for their child among the reasons why she introduced the bill.

Unfortunately, that data — released by Focus on the Family in 2008 — isn’t completely accurate.
MAJOR PRO-LIFE LEGAL/SCIENTIFIC DOCUMENT LAUNCHED AT UN HEADQUARTERS

By Austin Ruse

NEW YORK, NY (C-FAM) It is commonplace now for UN officials and American law professors to tell foreign governments that they are required by international law to liberalize their abortion laws. Just last month the UN Special Rapporteur on Health issued a report making this claim. The Secretary General endorsed his report. Shortly thereafter the UN High Commission on Human Rights said the same thing.

Pro-life activists have been saying for years that this is a false assertion. Even so, some governments have started to listen and to liberalize their laws. The High Court of Colombia changed their abortion laws based on these assertions from a UN committee. Two judges on the Mexican High Court have made these assertions also.
Thus begins the question being asked by author and film producer Ray Comfort in his new documentary,180. Titled to reflect the complete turnaround in the mindsets of all to whom the question is posed, the award-winning film shows eight pro-choice people (mostly college students) changing their stance to pro-life just moments after the question is asked in its entirety. It is Comfort’s hope that the documentary, releasing online September 26th, will go viral.

While skeptics of 180 (Living Waters Publications) say they can’t believe anyone would change his or her mind so quickly, Comfort accepts and even understands their disbelief, stating that he could hardly believe it himself when he first viewed the footage in the editing room.
UN OFFICIAL SAYS ABORTION IS A HUMAN RIGHT, SECRETARY GENERAL ENDORSES REPORT

By Douglas Sylva, Ph.D.

NEW YORK, NY - (C-FAM) While world attention has been focused on the UN General Assembly as it grapples with Palestinian statehood, the methodical drive by United Nations officials to promote legal abortion internationally goes on largely unnoticed. During the summer months, when press coverage of UN activities is minimal, the UN Secretariat released a report from the UN Human Rights Council calling on all nations to accept that women and girls must be granted access to legal abortion in order for them to fully enjoy their human rights.

The report, written by UN Special Rapporteur Anand Grover, links abortion on demand with the fundamental right to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health.
ADF'S GLOBAL INITIATIVE CHAMPIONS LIFE, FAMILY AND RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

By Thomas McFeely

NEW YORK, (C-FAM) - Since 1994, the Alliance Defense Fund has been fighting successfully in American courts and legislatures for religious freedom, the sanctity of life and defense of marriage and the family. Now, ADF is bringing this battle-tested legal expertise to the international arena via its recently launched Global Initiative.

ADF was founded in 1994 by attorney Alan Sears along with 35 prominent evangelical Christian leaders, including Focus on the Family founder James Dobson. The goal was to create a concentrated legal force capable of winning court cases against liberal legal behemoths like the American Civil Liberties Union.

ANALYSIS: THE PROBLEM WITH THE UN'S NEW FERTILITY FORECASTS

By Susan Yoshihara, Ph.D.

NEW YORK, NY (C-FAM) - The UN has reversed a decade of speculation about a demographic winter in the West, and now says that every country will achieve replacement fertility by 2100 resulting in a global population of 10 billion. The problem is there is no basis for their turnabout.

UN agencies are hailing new numbers as evidence of overpopulation in the developing world and vindication of decades of anti-natal policies in the West, but the scientific basis of the latest UN forecasts is slim.
LATIN AMERICA PRESSURED TO LIBERALIZE ABORTION LAWS UNDER UN HUMAN RIGHTS PROCESS

By Cristina Gutierrez

NEW YORK, NY (C-FAM) - Western governments are pressuring Latin American countries to liberalize their abortion laws, by using a new UN human rights process called the Universal Periodic Review (UPR).

El Salvador, Costa Rica, Chile, Brazil, Bolivia, Belize, and Argentina are among the top countries recently pressured via the UPR process, as European countries recommend that these nations amend their laws concerning the “rights” to abortion and contraception.
YOUNG VOICES SPEAK THE TRUTH ABOUT HUMAN LIFE TO UNITED NATIONS

By Lauren Funk

NEW YORK, NY (C-FAM) - The enthusiastic voices of pro-life youth from around the world dominated the events of this week’s High Level Meeting on Youth at the United Nations, drawing the attention of UN bureaucrats and delegates alike.

“I keep running into all these pro-lifers, they're everywhere...in fact most of the people I've interviewed are pro-life,” a young woman working for UNFPA told a member of the International Youth Coalition as she interviewed conference attendees.
UN YOUTH CONFERENCE PAYS LIP SERVICE TO YOUTH CONCERNS

By Nicholas Dunn

NEW YORK, NY (C-FAM) - When a young person attending this week’s UN Youth Conference stood to ask a question and identified himself with a pro-life NGO, the moderator of the side event informed him that the panel was not interested in hearing his perspective. Such disinterest in discussion with youth characterized the closing meeting for the UN’s International Year of Youth, themed “Dialogue and Mutual Understanding.”

Weeks before the conference, organizers forced NGOs to limit themselves to sending five young people, despite the fact that many young people had already received their confirmation letter and made travel arrangements. A representative from the UN Program for Youth told the Friday Fax that because over 1,200 young people had registered for the conference, conference planners had to limit attendance and participation due to a lack of space and security reasons.
UN WOMEN'S FLAGSHIP REPORT ENCOURAGES RADICAL FEMINIST LITIGATION

By Lauren Funk

NEW YORK, NY (CFAM) - Supporting advocates of legal abortions and lesbian rights is among the priorities of the newest UN super-agency, UN Women, evidenced in their first major publication released last week.

“In Pursuit of Justice” details the progress made in advancing women’s rights worldwide through changing legal norms and ending discriminatory provisions of national laws. In particular, the publication focuses on how strategic litigation has “revolutionized the scope of international law” by bringing international influence to national courts through the recommendations of CEDAW and other treaty monitoring bodies, and UN Special Rapporteurs.
UNFOUNDED POPULATION FEARS RESULT IN NEW UN CAMPAIGN MESSAGING

By Terrence McKeegan, J.D.

NEW YORK, NY (C-FAM) Messaging tied to a major new UN campaign reveals that the catastrophic fears common among population experts in the past 40 years regarding overpopulation and global population growth never came to pass and are now obsolete given new global population realities.

The pro-abortion UN Population Fund launched the 7 Billion Actions campaign last week on World Population Day with many new corporate and social media partners.
GOVERNOR CHRISTIE LINE ITEM VETOES $7.5M OUT OF BUDGET FOR PLANNED PARENTHOOD FAMILY PLANNING CLINICS

Governor
Spares NJ taxpayers from waste, fraud and abuse

TRENTON, NJ - New Jersey Right
to Life Executive Director, Marie Tasy, issues a statement applauding Governor
Chris Christie’s use of a line item veto to slash $7.5 million dollars in
taxpayer dollars designation to be used to fund Planned Parenthood.

Tasy commended Gov. Christie, “for
once again standing up for the integrity of NJ taxpayers and against the
political machinations of legislators who use women's health as an excuse to
pad the pockets of their friends and further a misguided ideological agenda.”

The statement then detailed what Tasy called a growing laundry list of Planned
Parenthood's misdeeds and said, “It is unfathomable that anyone who truly cares
about women's health and their well being would continue to push funding of
these clinics.”
