Rick Gillis,
founder of The Really Useful Job Company, is involved in many
"things" employment. Rick regularly speaks to job
seeking/networking/outsourcing groups presenting his concept of the
Pre-Resume, a new and powerful tool in getting noticed when applying
for a position online as well as technology and email etiquette protocols that
everyone in the job search should be aware of.
Speaking from his book, REALLY Useful Job Search Tactics, Rick speaks to
virtually all aspects of today's contemporary job search. Fact is, if you
haven't been in the job hunt in the past 3-5 years--you probably don't know how
to do it! After nearly 10 years in commercial
real estate in El Paso, Texas,
Rick relocated to Houston
seeking a change of career. In a very short time, he became employee number one
of a brand new internet start-up called HoustonEmployment.com, the first
Houston-based local employment site. As a direct result of Rick’s sales
efforts, HE.com quickly became the go-to site for a host of the most recognized
corporations located in Houston such as Compaq Computer (now HP),
Continental Airlines, The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Treatment
Center, Shell Oil Company, Rice University and even major league baseball’s
Houston Astros. In early 1998, Rick was asked to speak to a job seeker’s networking group on
how to use the internet in the job search. During that first presentation, Rick
began studying job seeking. Watching, listening and learning from job seekers
as well as the human resource and staffing company professionals he was meeting
on a daily basis, Rick developed the original version of what soon became known
as “Guerilla Job Search Tactics” - a presentation on the fundamentals of the
contemporary job search. Guerilla Job Search Tactics soon became the book: REALLY
Useful Job Search Tactics. The central theme of Rick's compelling message? “Show me, as an employer, how
you are going to make me money or save me money™ - and I will assure you of
finding the job you want.” This basic premise applies to all aspects of the job search from the
preparation of your Pre- Resume™ and “30-second elevator pitch” to all the
interviews that result. Even more importantly, it has been proven to apply to
all levels of job seeking - from entry level to the boardroom. It is this
simple statement, coupled with his energetic and entertaining style, that has
launched Rick’s professional speaking career and led to his radio show
“Rick Gillis Employment Radio”--a business talk-show with an employment
focus. The shows airs on Saturday from 9-10am on 97.5 FM, The Ticket, ESPN Houston.
