Gracious Heavenly Father -- Jehovah God, For so long we've recognized the symptoms of decay in our country as the same problems that afflicted all the nations down through history who turned from you. We've known the cause of our failing economy is the direct result of disobedience. We've cried out for you to bring our nation back to righteousness, but things only seem to get worse. We have begun to feel like Elijah when he said he was the only one left who had had not bowed the knee to Baal. Some of us have felt hopeless and begun to pray less for the country. Forgive us, Lord. Just
as you assured Elijah he was not alone, last weekend you showed us we
are not alone when hundreds of thousands of God-seekers flocked to the
Lincoln Memorial for the purpose of Restoring Honor to
our nation. When those speakers and presenters raised their voices
proclaiming Jesus Christ as Lord of our nation, we wept tears of
gratitude and joy. And we k... |

Holy God, I admit I am powerless over my entrenched habits and addictions and my only hope for healing comes from you. You are not simply a nameless higher power. You are the Only God and there is no other god. You are Creator, Jehovah, the I AM, powerful God of the Old Testament, Father of Jesus Christ the Messiah. You are King over all the kings who ever lived. Yet, because of the death and resurrection of your precious Son Jesus, you allow me to approach you boldly. How incredible! Thank you! You are omniscient - you knew me before I was born; you still see everything I do; you know my thoughts. You know how weak I am. You know that I am only dust and prone to wander from you and your ways. I am awestruck that you could know all that and still love me, but you do. Thank you! You
are omnipotent - you can do anything you want. You are the only one who
has the power to take away and forgive my sins. I completely submit
myself, my... |

The following One Time Only Prayer was taken from an unpublished book I wrote for my beloved cousin after he overcame addiction. Before Gary passed away he had been clean and sober for several years and approved each of the prayers in the book. Though written for addicts, this prayer fits most of us at some point during our lives. But once we pray it, we need never pray it again because we know God has answered.
Dear Father God, I feel so unworthy. I have no right to talk to you, but I'm desperate. I can't stand this torment any longer. I've made a mess of everything. I've failed my family; I've failed my friends; I've failed myself; I've failed you. I'm at the end of my rope. I don't know how to help myself and no one else can help me. So, I'm begging you to help me, God. Please help me! It's
hard for me to believe you would care about someone like me, but I do
believe. I choose to believe. I declare it alou... |

Gracious Heavenly Father, What a privilege when you call our attention to the troubles others are experiencing so we can cry out to you on their behalf! Thank you that we don't have to stand helplessly by doing nothing -- because you've given us the gift of prayer and through it we can actually access your supernatural help for them. Though we can't remove another's suffering, we can share in their pain as we uplift them in prayer. What an amazing thing that you would invite us, through prayer, to share in the power of your miracles for the ones we love. And
that's what we do right now. We figuratively take our suffering loved
one in our hands and hold him/her up to you. We ask you to do the
impossible for him/her. We plead for peace and healing. We long for
acceptance and love and success for him/her. Dreams fulfilled. Please
fill us with faith to believe for your miracles. Remind us of the walls
of Jericho, the opening of the Red Sea, Jehoshaphat's ... |

Holy God, You look down on the earth to observe all our comings and goings, and you know we are in deep trouble. We've been assigned tasks we aren't physically, mentally or emotionally capable of accomplishing. We're terrified of failing, yet the job looms as an unassailable wall before us. Our assignment is impossible. We thank you because you are our Father in heaven, our loving and compassionate Daddy to whom we can turn for comfort whenever we're distressed. Thank you that any time we choose we can close our eyes, mentally crawl up onto your lap, bury our heads on your chest and beg for help and comfort. But
this time feels different, Lord. We believe you want us to stand,
square our shoulders, plant our feet and reach for you, pulling in
fistfuls of your power, growing stronger and more courageous with every
breath. You want us to determine to fight for right.
And we believe you will help us approach the job in that way, Lord.

Abba Father, Daddy God, We cry out to you from a place of deep pain -- because we know you are able to help us. Those we expected would treasure us rip us apart with hurtful words. They accuse unjustly. They look at us with disdain. They make us feel worthless. We are a gaping wound festering with angry thoughts. We want to level charges against them that will put them in their place and vindicate us. Help us not do that, Jesus. Make us willing to forgive, to suffer the pain of choosing to act in love. Teach us to evaluate ourselves accurately so those false accusations lose their sting. Show us that you love us even if no one else does. Your
Word indicates we are what we think. Help us think like you. Be like
you. Fill our minds with love, forgiveness and acceptance so we can
experience your peace. You are a consuming fire, Lord. Consume all our
bitter thoughts. Teach us to cover the flaws in others just as you
forgive and overlook ours. Mak... |

Jehovah God, Father of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, You are the Only God; there is no other. We belong to you. You made us. You sustain us daily by your power and through your love. Because you are holy, you want us to be holy like you - to walk in a manner worthy of you and your sacrifice. You were not a victim on the cross; you were the victor. You weren't required to walk that road; you chose death and resurrection for us to save us from pain and destruction. You willingly walked into suffering to defeat your enemy, who is also the one who prowls about like a roaring lion searching for ways to destroy each of us. Satan hates us; you love us. You
give each of us the right and power to reject him and choose you and
eternal life. Our salvation comes through no one but you; it doesn't
even depend on our own actions. It's impossible for us to please you
and make it into heaven by our own good deeds. It requires belief and
faith in you, Jesu... |

Holy God, Father of Jesus Christ, You are righteous and holy, the One who created the heavens and earth by the Word of your mouth. In Noah's time, your heart broke when you looked down on the world and saw those people continually thinking and doing evil. Today your heart breaks anew when you see humans blinded by Satan repeating the wickedness of Noah's generation. And
you do see, Jesus. You see every sin and failure. Every wicked thought
and action. You see our nation, which is comprised of individuals,
rushing madly away from you like lemmings over a cliff. We?ve been
willfully ignorant of your laws . . . and suffered as a result. Those
of us who know you are able to sense your presence -- and
protection -- departing from our nation. We know that every nation who
turns its back on you collapses, but we don?t know what to do about it.
We feel powerless to stem the tide of such huge evil when we
struggle simply to overcome our personal failures. |

Father God, Abba Daddy, You look down on the earth and see all the goings-on. You are well aware of the disasters striking our nation and the world with increasing frequency. You care about every detail of our lives and continually assure us that you love us and will help us - if we return to you. Many think the world is out of whack because of the poor economy, the oil spill, terrorists and devastating storms. But those things aren't the problem at all, Lord. Together we confess the true source of our troubles: We rejected you when we erased the shame from immorality, tolerated corruption in government, perverted our justice system, and made the mere mention of your name "politically incorrect" -- even at your own birthday celebration. Please forgive us. Just
as you did down through history when any other nation turned away from
you, God, you have withdrawn your covering of protection from us.
Consequently, our security has disappeared and a s... |

O Gracious God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Wisdom and might belong to you. You see deep and hidden things and you reveal them to the wise. Make us wise, Lord. Give us your wisdom. Fill our hearts with your light and your Spirit. Reveal to each of us the flaws in our own thinking so that we can be more like you. We long to please you. We
want your peace, but many of us are troubled right now and feel as
though peace is unavailable to us - impossible for us. But it isn't.
You can and will give us your peace that passes understanding. We
believe that! You can and will keep us from dark fearful thoughts as we
rejoice in your power and love. You can remove our bitter thoughts and
help us come to see that instead of protecting us, resentment harms us
and others. Only you, Lord, can protect us. Show us how to reap the
rewards of your Spirit by continually seeking you throughout the day.
Teach us to walk in your Spirit. We pray together in Jesus' name... |
